coatings

Global utilise the most advanced water based technology in the world in the manufacture of our paints. Our coatings offer not only exceptional adhesion but also extraordinary resistance to wear, chemical and UV degradation. The key to the coatings performance is the specialised cross-linking system based on a special type of polyurethane. Whilst cross-linking polyurethane in itself is nothing new, the resulting production of a final product with an adequate level of wear and adhesion is. Unlike oil-modified urethanes, our waterborne system dries quickly, which can be a major advantage in manufacturing.

Global coatings provide a major advancement in finishing technology. They are based on a new type of polyurethane, combining the best of traditional finishes with the best of modern science. Our coatings offer results comparable to premium two component solvent-based finishes but in a waterborne system.

AST D45

Global AST D45 is the waterborne polyurethane-acrylic coating for you...for today and, even more importantly, for tomorrow!

AST D45 is non-flammable, non-toxic, and is available in clear or custom coloured formats. AST D45 meets the US and UK's Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) stringent current, as well as pending regulations for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

Exceptional Bonding Capabilities - No primer is needed for surfaces commonly known as "un-paintable"...like aluminium, galvanized steel, and flexible PVC. The remarkable low build feature of AST D45 allows second and third coats to be applied minutes apart. AST D45 dries in only fifteen minutes!

Ultraviolet Insensitivity - A major component of AST D45 is acrylic, the material of choice for industries which demand high protection against ultraviolet radiation. When AST D45 is applied according to manufacturer's instructions, the product is guaranteed for a period of up to 10 years against weathering, specifically: not to peel, blister, or suffer ultraviolet discolouration under normal environmental conditions. And, D45 gives you the professional finish you desire...in gloss or half matt.

Thermal Stability - Even in the extreme temperature changes in the freeze and thaw cycle of the North American climate which creates internal stresses, resulting in fatigue and breakdown over time for most coatings. Because AST D45 has a very high coefficient of linear expansion, it allows the coating to expand and contract together with the substrate.

Permeability - Another great feature - AST D45 coating system allows porous surfaces, like concrete, stone, and masonry to "breathe". AST D45 is a water barrier but not a vapour barrier. The microporous feature allows water vapours to migrate through the coating and evaporate into the atmosphere...provided that the substrate is not susceptible to water pooling. Conventional solvent-based paints act as vapour barriers. They do not allow water vapours to evaporate into the atmosphere, which forces the paint to "lift" from the surface, to peel and to blister. This feature will reduce condensation whilst protecting substrates like sandstone.

All these features translate into unprecedented savings...to the manufacturer and, to the consumer. Product descriptions, applications, and test results speak for itself!

BENEFITS

Our coatings are cross-linked waterborne polyurethane-acrylic coatings available in clear or colour format. This high performance exterior protective finish coat is formulated for superior adhesion and colour retention.

  • Provides total surface protection and adheres directly to architectural materials such as: Aluminium, Steel (galvanized & stainless), Fibreglass, PVC, Masonry surfaces.
  • Clear coat revitalizes faded (oxidized) surfaces and protects factory-finished surfaces.
  • Minimal surface preparation: Wash with biodegradable soap (AST decontaminator) and rinse with water.
  • Very flexible, not effected by freeze and thaw cycles.
  • Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions <250 g/l.
  • Isocyanate-free.
  • Fluorocarbon-free.
  • Environmentally and user friendly.
  • Superior adhesion and durability.
  • Air-dried. High temperature curing not required.
  • Approximately 70% lighter (DFT) than conventional solvent-based paints.
  • Minimal odour.
  • Water cleanable.
  • Less wear and tear on equipment.
  • Minimal over spray with HVLP equipment.
  • Non-flammable. Non-toxic.
  • Applied by brush, roller, or spray.
  • Quick-drying time between coats hence: cost effective use of time, facilities, and personnel.
  • Ultraviolet (UV) insensitivity.
  • Thin dry film thickness gives on-site factory finish look.
  • Guarantee: 5 years in harsh environmental conditions (see warranty).
  • 10 years in normal environmental conditions (see warranty).

Competitive Advantages Include:

When it comes to performance, cost, and environmental compliance, products from other paint and coating manufacturers cannot successfully compete with AST D45.

AST D45 contains less than 250 grams/litre of VOC, which means AST D45 meets all current and forthcoming International regulations for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

When applied by High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spraying equipment, AST D45 has extremely high transfer efficiency. Since more coating is transferred to the surface, lower loss and larger coverage area per litre are achieved. AST D45 saves the applicator money in coating cost.

Second and third coats can be applied minutes apart, resulting in unprecedented turn-around time. And, the end user reduces their shutdown expenses due to the shortened project completion time, another important, cost-effective characteristic of AST D45!

In certified independent laboratory testing, as well as field tests, AST D45 exhibits excellent thermal stability. With a very high coefficient of linear expansion, the coating will expand and contract with the coated surface. Because AST D45 remains flexible, sudden temperature changes, common in North America and Europe, pose no threat to the integrity of the coating.

In field applications throughout the world, including the UK, Ireland, Greece, Turkey, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, as well as a number of locations throughout Canada and the US, AST D45 has proven to withstand over ten years of ultraviolet radiation without degradation.

Our product also meets specification requirements for use in "clean room" environments such as operating rooms, laboratories, and micro-component assembly areas.

Both the United States Food & Drug Administration and the Food Production & Inspection Branch of Agriculture Canada have approved AST D45 for use on architectural surfaces in food processing
